The former Beatles drummer unveiled the award during a ceremony marking the 50th anniversary of the first pavement bearing the name of a celebrity.
"This is the start of the next 50 years of stars. I'm proud to be the first one," Contactmusic quotes him as saying.
Starr, who is the 2,401st celebrity to be honoured, became the first person to accept the prize during an evening ceremony.
"It's cool to get one at night. I don't know about you, but where I live, the stars come out at night," he joked.
The Beatles were given a star on the Walk in 1998, while singer John Lennon and guitarist George Harrison both also have individual stars. Bassist Paul McCartney is the only band member yet to be honoured.
