Matt Kemp: 'Rihanna and I just friends'

Matt Kemp has shot down speculation that he is dating Rihanna.

The pair triggered rumours of a romance after Kemp was snapped accompanying the singer to the United Arab Emirates, where she performed at the Emirates Palace on New Year's Eve.

Rihanna was later seen cuddling up to the 25-year-old baseball star during a romantic vacation in the Mexican resort of Cabo San Lucas.

However, Kemp has now insisted to People that their relationship is strictly platonic.

"She's just a friend, a good friend of mine and we went down to Mexico and had fun together," he said. "I didn't think all that would come out of it, it just happened. I'm not used to that much attention to my personal life.

"It's really not that big a deal. But in LA, doing things here, you're under a microscope, they're examining everything you're doing. It's LA, man, the city we live in. It is what it is. Can't control what happens."
