Chris Columbus: 'Actresses are too thin'
Chris Columbus has claimed that many actresses are too thin.

The Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief director explained that he struggled to cast someone as Athena's daughter Annabeth because the women who auditioned were too slender.

The role eventually went to Alexandra Daddario.

"I needed someone who really had a formidable quality as a goddess," Columbus told The Sun. "I saw a lot of women in Los Angeles who were so thin that I don't think they had eaten in weeks.

"They could barely lift a spoon and I needed someone who could lift a sword. So in New York I found Alex."

Columbus added that he had been impressed by the young members of the cast.

"The great thing about working with young stars is that they are so enthusiastic, so excited to be there," he said. "Veterans are great but young stars fill the set with a joy and youthful exuberance. There is no cynicism. They just want to be there and deliver a great job and I feed off that."
