Bono honours late Pope

U2 singer Bono has paid tribute to the late Pope John Paul II, dubbing him the "best frontman" the Roman Catholic Church has ever been graced with.

The pair have both been nominated for this year's Nobel Peace Prize and worked together on the Drop The Debt Campaign, an initiative aiming to convince rich nations to cancel the debts of developing countries.

Bono said in a statement on Sunday: "A great showman, a great communicator of ideas even if you didn't agree with all of them, a great friend to the world's poor which is how I got to meet him.

"Without John Paul II its hard to imagine the Drop The Debt Campaign succeeding as it did."
