Bettany 'abusing body with cheese, booze'

Paul Bettany has admitted that he has been "abusing" his body with the consumption of "cheese and booze".

The actor, who was forced to spend months working on his physique for his latest role in Legion, has insisted that his tone and chiseled features didn't last very long once production was completed.

The 38-year-old told Total Film: "My job for six months was to go into a gym for two hours a day and then get paid a nice sum of money at the end of it.

"I'm not a gym person but I have a strong work ethic. I promise you the moment it was over the abs didn't look like that anymore. I've been steadily abusing my body with cheese and booze ever since."

Bettany, who recently starred as Charles Darwin in Creation, also revealed his bad experiences working on high wires.

He added: "Creation was a really important movie to me but when I was a kid I wasn't playing the grandfather of evolution, I was running around shooting stuff.

"Being swung around by your balls for three days is tiring but in the end it's a trade-off. You feel that you're flying but with enormous pain in your testicles."
