Amanda Holden has revealed that she suffered a breast cancer scare last November.

The Britain's Got Talent host told the News of the World that she reported a lump in her breast to an on-set doctor during the filming of ITV1's Fantasy Lives.

Holden said: "I'll never forget the moment the doctor felt my breast and uttered the words: 'My dear, we need to get you straight to hospital.'

"I've always been lucky enough not to have had any health scares but, sat in that chair, my mind was filled with thoughts about high-profile people like Caron Keating and Jade Goody, who'd fought and lost their battle with this deadly disease. It brought home to me that none of us is invincible.

"Soon I was in the treatment room having a mammogram. It wasn't as bad as I thought - more uncomfortable than painful - like having my boobs squished inside a trouser press."

She added: "I'll never forget the moment the doctor said the results were clear. As he told me the lump was simply a collection of gristle-like tissue I felt giggly and, if I'm honest, a bit stupid, as though I'd wasted everybody's time.

"But that's what women need to stop worrying about. You're not wasting your doctor's time - if you're worried about your health, you must get checked out. Just pick up the phone and make an appointment."
