The actress stars as the White Queen in Tim Burton's upcoming adaptation of the children's book, which features Depp as the Mad Hatter.
Speaking to ET Online, she said: "One of things I was struck by was that he has such a mystique about him that I feel like his fans and the media puts on him and he is as real a person as you can be.
"I think he's exactly who he would be if none of this had happened to him. I admire that so greatly - it's not only that it's not gone to his head, but it's not changed him one iota, and I think that's remarkable."
Alice In Wonderland arrives in cinemas next month.
