The Brooklyn's Finest star says that he mainly listens to old blues and gospel music.
When asked if he listened to hip-hop the 60-year-old actor told Global Grind: "Not at all, it’s like an alien music to me. It’s mostly old blues guys. That’s where I’m coming from.
"Robert Johnson is on the top of my list and I’m sure 99 percent of the people on this planet don’t know who Robert Johnson is.
"My wife put on the random select on our sound systems, it was stuff coming out there that I hadn’t heard before. It was a lot of gospel stuff, like '20s gospel '30s gospel stuff.
"It had an unprocessed purity to it, that I think is hard to find these days."
Brooklyn's Finest arrives in US cinemas on March 5. As of yet, no UK release date has been announced.
