Janet Jackson 'wants to start a family'

Janet Jackson has revealed her intention to start a family with partner Jermaine Dupri.

The 43-year-old singer, who has an on-off relationship with Dupri, said that a role in theatre might be in the pipeline.

"At some point I would like to do theatre - it's something I've always wanted to do," Jackson said, speaking to Gotham magazine. "I'll [produce] more films. And I would like to have children."

The star also insisted that her career has been "very fortunate" thus far.

"I think it was the way I was brought up. I was very fortunate to see all of this before it ever happened to me through my brother, so I knew what to expect.

"I watched the way my brother handled it. It’s also important who you surround yourself with. True friends aren’t afraid to put you in check," she added. "If I want to take a break from work, I love going to the islands. I love the ocean. I also love being with my family. I love going to the movies."
