Lil Wayne 'put in protective custody'

Lil Wayne has reportedly convinced a judge to put him in protective custody.

According to TMZ, the rapper will serve his long-delayed weapons charge sentence under the special provision from today.

Wayne also asked the magistrate for special medical attention while incarcerated because of his documented dental problems.

His mentor Brian 'Birdman' Williams was apparently present in the courtroom to see the star off.

Wayne did not make any final statements before being led away.
