The Beastie Boys rapper was diagnosed with a cancerous parotid gland in July 2009. Yauch underwent surgery on his salivary gland and radiation therapy following the diagnosis.
As a result, the group postponed work on their upcoming album and delayed an impending tour. On Thursday, Yauch announced that his health is continuing to improve and he has begun work on the album again.
"I feel better," the rapper said. "It was touch and go there for a while, but I am finally getting my energy back."
Yauch stated that the group members are planning to meet to edit its upcoming album.
"I was just talking to Adam [Horovitz] and Mike [D] today on the phone and we were talking about working on it a bit", he said. "We finished the record over a year ago, so we want to take a look at it and re-evaluate and make sure it is what we want to put out there and that we are still happy with it."
