Letterman reacts to extortionist sentencing

David Letterman has spoken out about the sentencing of Robert Halderman, the man who extorted the late-night host over his affairs.

According to TMZ, Letterman expressed gratitude to the officials and attorneys who prosecuted Halderman during today's taping of his show.

The 62-year-old said that the ordeal made him feel "concerned and full of anxiety and nervous and worried".

Letterman thanked Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance and former District Attorney Robert Morgenthau for handling the case "professionally, skillfully and appropriately".

Halderman is to serve six months in jail and five years' probation. He will also undertake 1,000 hours of community service.
