Gere: 'Crawford marriage wasn't perfect'

Richard Gere has opened up about the breakdown of his marriage to Cindy Crawford.

The Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride actor, who married supermodel Crawford in Las Vegas in 1991 but split from her three years later, said that their age gap was to blame for the break-up.

Gere told the Daily Mail: "I married her because I didn't want to lose her. But we didn't have the perfect marriage - it wasn't happening as well as either of us wanted.

"Marriage is walking the path in the same direction. I wasn't sure I'd adjust to looking after my own child."

The 60-year-old star, who is now married to actress Carey Lowell, said: "You have to let that person know they are special. Start every day fresh."
