Dr Sakar Oravi confirmed that the footballer's ruptured Achilles tendon has been repaired, but he will not be fit in time for this summer's tournament in South Africa, Sky News reports.
Orava, who operated on the midfielder today in Finland, said: "The operation was done, it went well and it will take many months for him to recover." He added that there is "no chance" the former England captain might make the World Cup finals, which begin on June 11.
The ex-Manchester United star will have his foot in a cast for the next six to eight weeks, after which he will begin "more vigourous" physiotherapy. Orava said that he will be discharged from his care on Tuesday, before spending the next three to four months on the sidelines.
Beckham twisted his left ankle during the final minutes of a match for AC Milan on Sunday.
