Debbie Rowe: Jackson victim of "vultures"
Published Thursday, Apr 28 2005, 23:04 BST | By James Welsh
Michael Jackson's ex-wife Debbie Rowe testifed on Thursday that she believes the pop star has been manipulated by "opportunistic vultures."
The testimony has centered on the allegation that Michael Jackson conspired with five others to control the family of the boy who accuses Jackson of molestation. The prosecution alleges that these actions were undertaken to ensure that the family would help restore Jackson's image after the broadcast of Martin Bashir's Living with Michael Jackson documentary back in 2003. Rowe's testimony on Thursday was generally helpful to Jackson's defence team. She characterised Jackson as being susceptible to manipulation, and indicated that she suspected his advisors - the co-conspirators - were "not telling him everything."
The nature of Rowe's testimony was in sharp contrast to her remarks on Wednesday when she said she had made untrue positive comments about Jackson on-camera in February 2003. After that, Jackson's defence team filed a motion to have all her testimony stripped from the record. Today, Jackson's defence team withdrew that motion.
