DS Icon: Honour Blackman

There's nothing we love more at DS - as you may have guessed from our previous Icons - than an old stager with a bit of fighting spirit and spunk to them. 84-year-old Honour Blackman epitomises the spark, beauty and vim we admire in our veteran showbiz stars. Best known for her work on The Avengers and as a Bond girl, our favourite memories of Mrs B come from her time on the often-derided ITV sitcom The Upper Hand.

Blackman was the perfect fit for the role of man-eating Laura West, as she starred alongside Joe McGann and Diana Weston for 95 episodes in the family-friendly comedy. Her other TV credits have included a turn in Doctor Who, a guest cameo in Midsomer Murders and a run in Coronation Street, where she sauced things up as flirty pensioner Rula Romanoff in a storyline with Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden). All in all, there is not much Honour hasn't done during her time and she's still going strong today, campaigning for the rights of the elderly. You go, old girl!
