Pete Doherty: 'Prison system works'

Doherty, who has repeatedly escaped jail time for several offences but did serve two short stints in prison in 2003 and 2008, said that the system is effective as it stops criminals committing offences while incarcerated.
"It keeps you off the street, doesn't it?" he said in a video interview for political and music organisation Instigate Debate.
"It works in that way. But it doesn't stop you offending. Not through rehabilitation. Prison works, because it stops you committing crime. Unless you're going to stab someone in the showers."
The 31-year-old also spoke about street violence in the UK.
"I think it's to do with drugs and guns. I'm not scared of a pissed-up geordie. I'm scared of a kid with a gun. A pikey."
Doherty's manager was recently jailed over a hit-and-run incident.
