LaBeouf, who stars alongside Douglas in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, explained that the actor is finding it difficult to cope after his son Cameron pleaded guilty to cocaine and methamphetamine trafficking.
"Michael Douglas was an open wound on the set," LaBeouf told GQ.
"That dude is in pain. He was emotional putty on the set. A struggling man. We filmed a struggling man."
LaBeouf has previously claimed that Douglas was "broken" and "on the verge of a nervous breakdown".
