Harry Carpenter has died at the age of 84.

The commentator worked on a number of BBC sports shows during his career, but was best known for his boxing commentary and frequent interviews with heavyweight Frank Bruno.

Carpenter's lawyer David Wills said: "He had been unwell since last summer when he had a minor heart attack.

"The funeral has not been arranged but will be a family funeral, to be followed by a memorial service in London."

Bruno's catchphrase, "Know what I mean, Arry?" was derived from Carpenter's interviews with the one-time WBC champion of the world.

Carpenter died on Saturday at London's King's College Hospital and is survived by his widow and one son.
