Contactmusic reports that the actor believes his role in Mamma Mia! has made him more noticeable.
"I get middle-aged women chasing me down the street," he said. "It's definitely due to Mamma Mia!."
He added: "I was blissfully unaware of how the business worked. Once people recognise you, it changes your position in terms of the people you meet and the opportunities you then have for more work. The whole thing was a delightful experience."
Cooper added that he is determined not to let his fame change his life too much.
"I think it's important to live in the real world," he said. "I remember the playwright Alan Bennett saying, 'As a writer you must stay about the people you write about'. As an actor, you can't not travel on the underground."
Last month, Cooper confessed that he wears a beard in public so people will not recognise him.
