David Jason: 'Retiring is not an option'

The actor, 70, chose to stand down from the much-loved role that he played for 17 years when his age made it impossible for him to credibly play a working policeman.
Sir David, whose TV credits include Open All Hours, Only Fools And Horses, The Darling Buds Of May and Porterhouse Blue, said that leaving the ITV detective show was incredibly tough.
"Sadly, myself and the other producers agreed it was time for Jack to retire from the force. Yes, it was the right decision, but one of the hardest of my career," he told The Sunday Telegraph.
However, Sir David said that retiring is not an option. Since the end of Frost, he has directed his first short film and is fronting a Five documentary called The Show Must Go On, in which he mentors an amateur dramatics group.
The final two-part instalment of A Touch of Frost, 'If Dogs Run Free', will be shown on April 4 and 5 on ITV1.
