Chaz Bono files for official name change

Cher's eldest child with Sonny Bono has reportedly changed his name from Chastity Bono to Chaz.

According to E!, the star filed a formal petition to legally change his name and gender.

The 40-year-old began the process of a sex change last March.

Speaking to Good Morning America, he said: "Gender is between your ears, not between your legs. I've felt male as far back as I can remember. As a child it was really clear. I felt like a boy."

A hearing for his request has been scheduled for May 6.
