The Humane Society of the United States has announced that partial proceeds of a comic book featuring Ellen DeGeneres will benefit the organisation.

The comedienne is the latest addition to the Female Force comic book series by Bluewater Productions. DeGeneres has been an outspoken animal activist and vegetarian for many years.

"Ellen has been a leading force for animal protections issues," People quotes HSUS chief operating officer Michael Markarian as saying.

The 38-page illustrated feature will chronicle DeGeneres's childhood in Louisiana and her rise to comedic fame, highlighting her animal activism. The series, written by Sandra C Ruckdeschel, also features Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Hillary Clinton.

DeGeneres's edition of the Female Force comic will be available on Wednesday.
