The actor explained that he had made $30,000 (£19,680) for his first movie Wildcats but was astonished when he compared it to his mum's salary.
In an interview with GQ, he said: "She asked, 'Did you say $30,000? Thirty... thousand... dollars? That's twice as much as I make'."
Snipes continued: "I was floored. I was on one high at one moment, and then I was on a low low low, just like that. I had no concept of the level of struggle that she was going through, none whatsoever.
"[I thought,] 'You mean to tell me you've been [working] for almost ten years and all you make is $15,000 (£9,800) and they're going to pay me more than you, and you have to get up at three o'clock in the morning?'"
Snipes recently explained that he tries to ignore criticism by letting it flow past him like water.
