According to People, the Ghost Whisperer star and Asher worked together earlier this year when he guest starred on the show.
"They've been spending a lot of time together and are having fun," said a source.
The insider added: "He showers her with attention and is helping her move on from her break-up with Jamie [Kennedy]."
Hewitt and co-star Kennedy broke up in March after dating for a year.
Asher and McCarthy were married in 1999 and divorced in 2005. They have an 8-year-old son named Evan.
