Martin Lawrence has praised his favourite teacher.

The actor told Jimmy Kimmel that Ms Henderson, the teacher who encouraged him to become a comedian at an early age, was very ill.

"She gave me a card to an open mic [comedy night] and said, 'You know what, you're so funny, I enjoy it, go try it out.' She sent me on my way," revealed the comedian.

"I'm asking all y'all to say a prayer for her because she fell ill, I love you Miss Henderson," he added.

The actor can be seen in his latest role in a remake of the British comedy Death at a Funeral.
