John Cornell has undergone a radical procedure for Parkinson's disease.

The Australian television star, who is best known as Paul Hogan's sidekick in The Paul Hogan Show, is believed to be making a recovery after starting deep brain stimulation five months ago.

Cornell, who has spent years immobilised by his disease, told The Daily Telegraph that he feels as though "a magic wand had been waved over me" after the treatment.

When asked what he will be doing to celebrate his apparent recovery, the 69-year-old replied: "I'd like to go for a walk with my wife [actress Delvene Delaney]."

After enduring a series of subthalamic nucleus stimulation procedures at a Brisbane hospital, Cornell said of the medical experts who cared for him: "I have met some amazing people in my life but none more so than a couple of doctors at this hospital."

Cornell will apparently have to undergo treatment every few months.
