The actor, who is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones, said in a US Elle interview that the women were friends of his mother and aged in their 30s at the time.
Douglas, 65, refused to name the women involved for fear of getting them into trouble with his mother, actress Diana Dill.
The son of Kirk Douglas, he said that he was outshone regularly by his father's charm. "In the years before I met Catherine, there were a couple of ladies who met him to whom he gave his most impressive showing," he said.
The Solitary Man star added that his opening comment when meeting Zeta-Jones was: "I want to father your children."
"That’s not a line I’d used before," he said.
