The event's organiser Melvin Benn declared that it is his "dream" to expand the bash, which introduced the Leeds venue in 1999 having been solely held in Reading since the early '70s.
"We may well develop a site but probably not in the UK," he told the Daily Star. "It's more than a dream but I can't say where it will be. I'd like maybe to set it up for next year."
When asked if the festival could be heading for a sunnier climate, he answered: "There's no point in taking Reading and Leeds to an exotic location.
"It needs to be somewhere appropriate and exotic wouldn't be appropriate."
This year's Reading and Leeds Festivals - headlined by Guns N' Roses, Arcade Fire and Blink-182 - will be held from August 27 to August 29.
