The West Coast Choppers CEO - who checked himself into a treatment facility last month to deal with "personal issues" - was snapped outside his Los Angeles area home on Monday.
According to People, James was not wearing his wedding ring as he took his children to school.
The 40-year-old entered the Sierra Tucson Treatment Centre after his marriage to Oscar winner Bullock broke down following reports that he had embarked on multiple affairs.
Bullock was also recently spotted without her wedding ring.
