Shatner to be Canada's governor general?

A Facebook group has been started to ask Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to nominate the actor for the position once current holder Michaëlle Jean steps down. The page has already garnered 3,600 fans since its launch on March 22.
"The governor general's position is largely ceremonial and I can think of no Canadian who would possibly make the most of those grandiose moments as the great William Shatner," the group state.
The Star Trek captain has only joked about the effort thus far on Twitter.
"I believe governor general means you govern the generals. Does that make me part of the army? My best, Bill," he wrote.
"I think he should be governor general," replied Trek co-star Leonard Nimoy. "That man needs more to do."
