Katy Brand has revealed that she fought with producers over material about Jesus in her Big Ass ITV sketch shows.

The comedienne and theology graduate told The Times that while she backed down on including material about Jesus having a small penis, she made sure other sketches about his fictional girlfriend Ruth made the cut.

Brand said: "The sketches featuring Ruth were always contentious.

"I felt reasonably confident that I knew what's blasphemous. If you are referring to Jesus as an historical figure you can say what you like about him. That's an important distinction.

"We made some silly joke about Jesus having a small d**k and they said it's blasphemous and I said, 'No, it's perfectly possible he wasn't well endowed. That's not the same as saying Christ the Son of God was possessed by the Devil'."

However, she added: "Small d**k was out, it was not worth fighting for. I'd rather have the sketch with Ruth being caught in bed by Jesus, who pulls back the cover and goes, 'Matthew, Mark, Luke, John', as their heads pop up. That I fought for."
