Patti Newton has revealed that her family are "strong" enough to get through any tough times.

The Australian personality, who has actor son Matthew with TV presenter Bert, said that her son entering a rehabilitation clinic for alleged drug and alcohol abuse last week was very "hard".

Patti told the Herald Sun: "It has been a hard week. We are a strong family and always there for one another and hopefully that is how it will always be. But more importantly, it is Matthew's time and it is a hard road for him.

"This is a positive thing and that is how we are thinking of it. We are hoping an end result will come out that will be good."

Patti and daughter Lauren are believed to have still attended last night's Logie Awards to support host Bert.
