The father of late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, who is grandfather to Bindi and Robert, has reportedly been unable to resolve a rift with his daughter-in-law Terri that saw him quit his job at the family business Australia Zoo two years ago.
Irwin told The Sunday Times: "I haven't heard from them and it is sad but that is a part of life, I guess."
A spokesperson for the zoo said: "Terri, Bindi and Robert were in the United States when Bob was hospitalised. Bindi hopes this will be the catalyst to encourage her poppy to quit smoking as Bindi is very worried about her poppy."
Bob claims that he has not seen the children since 2008.
