Porter: 'I looked like baby with boobs'

TV presenter Gail Porter has joked that she looked like a "big baby with boobs" after developing alopecia.

Porter's hair recently started to grow again for the first time in five years, but speaking on GMTV this morning about the condition, she said that she was not taking anything for granted.

"I wish I could say to people with alopecia that there's some sort of cure," she said. "I've done something - but there isn't. It's just a very odd disease and just hang on to hope I think... I've never gone back to the doctors since they told me my hair wouldn't grow back.

"So that was five years ago. I know people who have had alopecia and their hair has grown back and then fallen out again. So you know what, I'm taking every day as it comes. It's fun, I've been bald before, it's not going to kill me."

When asked about the medical advice she received, she said: "The doctors thought it was stress related, but lots of people are stressed. I think everybody - your bodies all handle things in different ways.

"So my body just decided it didn't want its hair anymore. I looked like a big baby with boobs!"

Porter also claimed that her new boyfriend Jonny Davies, who she started dating last year, was taking credit for the hair growth.

"[He] is putting it down to himself obviously, he's like, 'Your hair has been growing back for eight months - we've been going out for eight months'. So I'm happy, I'm managing bands, I'm doing all sorts of different things. I don't know if I'm having a mid-life crisis or what, but I'm having fun."

Joking about the downside of her hair coming back, she added: "Now I've got to shave my legs and have bikini waxing!"
