According to The Sun, the late singer was besieged by money troubles and desperate to escape from his Neverland ranch.
The recordings, left as messages on a friend's answering machine, feature Jackson pleading for help and expressing fears for his life.
Journalist and filmmaker Daphne Barak was reportedly handed the tapes by anonymous friends who wished to show the severity of Jackson's addiction to prescription drugs.
"These demonstrate different states of mind he was experiencing under the influence of pharmaceuticals," said Barak.
The messages date from February 2003.
