During the '80s and '90s, people didn't head to the gym every day of the week and the thought of going for a jog around the park seemed faintly ridiculous. Instead if we wanted to do some exercise, shed the man boobs and pull our bulging figures back into line, we'd switch on our telly boxes and wait for someone in bright Lycra to tell us how. The master of the art was former DS Icon Mr Motivator. However, the true original and groundbreaker was TV-am's 'Mad' Lizzie Webb.
Every morning from 1983 to 1992, Lizzie woke up the nation with her music-based keep-fit routines and snazzily titled health campaigns (who could forget the classic 'Feeling Fine in '89'?). Brought in to compete against the BBC's Green Goddess Diana Moran, Lizzie easily won out in the breakfast keep-fit wars thanks to her infectious personality, bums/tums/quad routines and, most importantly, the ability to bend her leg behind her head. We're not quite sure what 'Mad' Liz is up to these days, but we're fairly confident that she'll still have a smile on her face and it will involve bending, stretching and vigourously thrusting in some form.
