The actor, who is the father of Angelina Jolie, insisted that the role of grandfather is one of his best yet, reports US Weekly.
"Every stage of your life has delight, thank God, and also dramas. But, oh my gosh, being a grandfather is the most wonderful thing," he said.
The 71-year-old recently joined his actress daughter and her husband Brad Pitt, along with their six children, on what he described as a "very beautiful trip" to Italy.
"It's nice to have something positive. I hope to see the kids soon."
Voight and Jolie have only recently reconciled after a seven-year rift resulting from Voight's claims on Access Hollywood in 2001 that his daughter was severely mentally ill.
