Dennis Quaid has sued a drug company over mislabled packaging which led to an overdose in his newborn twins in 2007.

The twins were given near-fatal doses of Heparin, a blood thinner, reports The AP.

Quaid has taken the case against Baxter Healthcare Corp to the Los Angeles Superior Court after his original 2008 lawsuit in Baxter's home state of Illionis was dimissed.

The suit alleges that both Heparin and Hep-Lock, a lower dose version of the drug, were packaged in similar vials, which caused a hospital mix-up.

Zoe and Thomas Quaid were given nearly 1,000 times the intended dosage of Heparin when they were born prematurely at Los Angeles's Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre.

The hospital was later fined $25,000 (£17,359) by the California Department of Public Health for the violations.
