Leslie Ash campaigns for clean hospitals

Leslie Ash is campaigning for the government to take action in cleaning up Britain's hospitals.

The Men Behaving Badly actress contracted the MSSA bug (Methicillin Sensitive Staphylococcus Aureus) last year during a stay at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and has now designed a product for the public to use as protection.

Containing aloe vera and moisturiser, the gel will soon be available on the market. In the meantime, Ash is determined to make the government take the issue seriously. She told a press conference: "We all know we have got a problem in our hospitals. The Government has to do something about it. I have been saying that for ages. These things have to be accounted for. It is not going to go away.

"The Government says the figures are coming down but I am not sure how valid that is.

"Now the public have to be responsible as well. Maybe that will kick the Government into play to do something about it.

"But I am annoyed that we are having to take this on ourselves. We shouldn't have to."
