Michael Barrymore has reportedly admitted that he was partly responsible for the 2001 poolside death of Stuart Lubbock.

The former presenter, who was arrested twice during the investigation, conceded that he should not have invited him back to his home. The 53-year-old was eventually cleared of all charges.

Barrymore witnessed the incident, but Lubbock's father Terry only recently closed an eight-year campaign for justice.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, Barrymore said: "Do you know my part in that pool incident? I'll tell you. I didn't say no at the club, because I was off my head.

"If I'd have been stone-cold sober I would have gone, 'You ain’t coming back to my place. I haven't got a clue who you are, you ain't coming back'. End of story. Pissed, I went, 'Yeah alright', and sadly he died."

Barrymore was sacked from ITV in 2001 following the incident.
