Peter Keefe, the producer of 1980s animated series Voltron, has died at the age of 57.

The animation executive passed away in Rochester, NY after battling throat cancer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Keefe, known for sporting cowboy boots, a black handlebar moustache and long blond hair, adapted Japanese animated series Go Lion and Dierugger into Voltron in 1984.

The show was the number one rated children's programme during the 1984 and 1985 broadcast seasons.

Keefe also produced the animated series Widget and The Mr. Bogus Show. His latest creation Z-Force is now in development.
