The actress, who designed the jacket with the Kopenhagen Fur company, said that she wanted to break the stereotype that younger women cannot wear the material, reports the International Fur Trade Federation.
“Wearing fur may be associated with something grandmotherish. Something you wear when you visit the opera, or if you are a rock star and wears it inside out," she explained.
"But I will advocate that both my generation and the younger generation can wear fur."
Shields added that she plans to incorporate the piece into her everyday life.
“I will wear the fur garment when I follow my children to school, when I drink coffee and when I sleep," she said.
