The Biggest Loser trainer - who is currently fronting new NBC series Losing It With Jillian - told In Touch that she ate for comfort because she didn't fit in with her classmates.
"Food was always there for me during really hard times. It was something to look forward to everyday when I was feeling depressed or down," she explained.
However, the fitness expert went on to say that she is "glad" she went through the experience because it taught her the importance of "empathy and humility".
She added that starting to exercise helped give her a "feeling of empowerment" and that the teasing stopped when her classmates saw her growing more confident in herself.
Michaels previously described herself as the real "biggest loser" at high-school, saying that she was a "loner" who never went to any parties.
Losing It With Jillian continues next Tuesday at 8/7c on NBC.
