McClanahan, who appeared on sitcom The Golden Girls with White, died today after suffering a major stroke. She was 76.
"Rue was a close and dear friend," White told Entertainment Tonight.
"I treasure our relationship. It hurts more than I ever thought it would, if that's even possible," the octogenarian comedienne added.
White is now the last surviving Golden Girls star. Estelle Getty passed away in 2008, and Bea Arthur died in 2009.
