The 'California Gurls' singer, who plays Smurfette in an upcoming movie adaptation of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon, said her parents disapproved of the character.
"I'm going to be Smurfette; I'm so excited! I've never seen an episode, because my parents wouldn't let me," she told MTV.
"My mother thought that Smurfette was a little bit slutty, being the only female in the village. And now I've shown her. I called her up and said, 'Guess what, ma? I'm Smurfette!'"
Perry added that she took delight in rebelling against her pastor parents, Mary and Keith Hudson.
She said: "It was just like one of those days - 'Guess what, mum? I kissed a girl!' 'Guess what, mum? I'm going to be naked in a music video!'"
