DS Icon: Paul Chuckle

First things first. Paul 'Chuckle' Elliot is definitely not dead. Don't believe the Twitter rumours. Ignore the Facebook groups. Don't listen to the urban myth. Paul is still going strong and chuckling with the best of them. After 21 years of entertaining children on ChuckleVision (with a little help from his brother Barry), we thought it about time that we celebrated the moustache master, slapstick king and all-round funnyman's career. We would have included Barry as well, but there was that whole sleazy sex scandal story a few years back, and frankly we didn't want to start heading down that road.

Rarely has a man got so far in the world of comedy based around such a simple act. For that alone, Paul deserves high praise. The Chuckles' "to me, to you" catchphrase, general buffoonery and repetitive slapstick set-pieces could be described as lazy, cheap and predictable. However, we prefer to celebrate their ability to stretch one gag into a whole TV career, mastering the art of making a little go a long way. And despite endless panto appearances, CBBC series and the constant idiotic behaviour of his younger sibling, Paul has shown no sign of slacking down the years. For that - we salute him!
