The actress, who is being honoured for her contributions to the world of film and her charity work in Wales, is "absolutely thrilled" with the award, reports BBC News.
"As a British subject, I feel incredibly proud, at the same time it is overwhelming and humbling. And my mum and dad are delighted beyond belief," she said.
Coronation Street actresses Eileen Derbyshire, Barbara Knox and Anne Reid were also included on the list and have been appointed MBEs. Actors Sophie Okonedo and John Nettles are now OBEs.
The list was signed by Prime Minister David Cameron and approved by the Queen.
