Country music star Jimmy Dean has died, aged 81.

The singer passed away at his home in Henrico County, VA, on Sunday, says The AP.

"He was amazing. He had a lot of talents," his wife Donna Meade Dean is quoted as saying.

His most famous song was the 1961 track 'Big Bad John', which told the story of a coal miner and earned him a Grammy Award. He also starred in programmes including The Jimmy Dean Show and was chosen to enter the Country Music Hall Of Fame.

He was also known for his sausage business, the Jimmy Dean Meat Company, which he founded in the 1960s. It was later sold to Sara Lee Foods.

Dean is survived by his wife Donna, three children and two grandchildren.
