In her new book Uncharted TerriTORI, the 37-year-old claimed that migraines, swine flu and nerve problems were the cause of her rapid weight loss and said that she was hospitalised for the ailments three times in the last year.
She also revealed that she was forced to take three rounds of antibiotics which caused severe stomach pain that made it impossible to eat.
"I've never had a great stomach, but [the illness] just completely tore up my stomach and broke down my immune system," she explained.
"I've basically just been a mess ever since, stomach-wise. It's about rebuilding my immune system."
Spelling added that her rumoured eating disorder set a bad example for her fans.
"I'm a role model for a lot of women out there, so I hate that they say these things unwarranted, without any research and facts.
"I think it's doing a disservice to women out there that look up to any celebrity."
